It happened again... - New Photographs and These Things
Whether you succeed or not is irrelevant — there is no such thing. Making your unknown known is the important thing.

It’s happened again…
that I got on my bike and looked up and it’s four months later and some of you have asked recently “why don’t he write” so I’m writing to let you know that I’ve been pedaling in the dirt a lot this season so I’m a little further down the road toward having a few series of photographs that I’m really excited to share with you here and this fall if you’re in the Boise area please stop by and take a look and hopefully some of these will inspire you as much as these things have inspired me recently.
Upcoming photography exhibitions
The Common Well - Friday, Aug. 28
I’ll be presenting a series simply titled “Self Portraits” which sounds boring which is why you can’t see me in the photographs… well, I mean… you just have to see the photos. View show details (Friday, Aug. 28, 2026).
You can finally see “Self portrait on a bicycle early in the morning along a favorite wall” as it’s meant to be—30 x 45 inches. I’m so grateful to Katherine at The Common Well for her encouragement now for two years to make this photograph happen.
Water's Edge Gallery - Sunday, Sept. 6
I’m grateful to show a few landscapes and spaces photographs along with one from the “Afterlife of Flowers” series printed in the darkroom at Lenses & Brushes downtown Boise. View show details (Sunday, Sept. 6, 2026).
Boise Open Studios (BOSCO) Tour - Oct. 10 & 11
I love the annual open studio tour. You basically get to cruise around Boise seeing art and meeting artists and friends in their studios! I’ll be exhibiting a few works from a few series and will show photographs printed on canvas from “The Unintended Consequence of Gesture” series for the first time. View details about the 2026 BOSCO tour.
These things recently inspired me…
Wooden Trolls by Thomas Dambo - This dude makes huge wooden trolls from mostly recycled materials and there’s now a map to the trolls’ homes.
Museum Patrons Accidentally Matching Artworks Photographed by Stefan Draschan - The title explains it, but the photographs really tell the story. What a fun concept for a photo series.
11 Easy Snack Recipes Under 200 Calories to Help You Beat an Afternoon Slump - …or take on a long ride. I’ve used this app to track nutrition and their emails sometimes have great tips like this one. Fall is coming so the best mountain and gravel biking season is close so I’m still eating for the ride!
How far back in time can you understand English? An experiment in language change - Colin Gorrie assembled this article with examples of a story rewritten over a few hundred years of the English language—it’s fascinating to read and see how English evolves and shows that generally the better ideas become pervasive.
Sincerely, I would love to see you at one or all of these events.
